Fishing Report:
GRANDER
Waste Knot II released a huge Blue Marlin today. Length on the Marlin was approx 158" and estimated to be over 1,000 lbs. Congratulations Capt. Trey and Mate Woody!!!!!!!!! Waiting on the video to post to the site.
Inshore
The inshore action is starting to happen. The warm waters have pushed the Blue fish into the area and the Spainish and Cobia are not far behind. Had a great day today with a good catch of Blues.
Mahi
We went offshore this past Friday, Sunday, and Monday. The weather was nice all three days. This weekend it went from springtime temp to summer temp over night. And the fishing picked up. We ran south in search of dolphin and found then all three days. There where some blue marlin caught but we did not hook up. The reports from the southern fishing boats are lots of dolphin. So the best fishing is yet to come.
Way to start the year off right
Striper fishing was slower today, but we managed to get our share. Here is a pictue of one caught early in the day.
Rock Fish - It’s Time
Got a limit of Stipers today. The weather was great and the seas were better. Capt. Trey and our favorite lady angler showing off one of the stripers caught in todays mix of fun, laughter and catching!
Blue Fin Tuna to Japan
Capt. Trey put the beat down on the Blue Fin Tuna today!!!!!!!! 3 Fish brought to market and on the way to Japan for the auction. We will keep you posted on the results. Combined weight of the dressed out fish was 601 lbs. WAY TO GO TREY!
Tuna Action
Tuna are here, Awesome day with 9 Yellowfin in the box.
Mahi and Marlin
Ashton's mahi on Saturday. We had 4 whites and 1 blue in the spread at the same time and could not get them to bite. Ashton was reeling in a small blackfin tuna and the blue actually hit the tuna with it's bill and then swam away. We were waiting on Ashton to go for a ride or catch the fish of his life. Not sure what happened on that, but we are probably thankful that the marlin did not eat the tuna. 225 to 250lb blue on a TLD 25 would have been fun.....just not sure of how long the fun would have lasted.
Wind and Waves
Too much wind and large seas are keeping us from going beyond the breakers. Hopefully this weekend the seas will lay down and we can try to catch the last of the marlin bite as the warm water is now down around Hatteras. This should be some great fishing.
Flying Fish
What a show, this is something everyone needs to see.
Flags on the Waste Knot II
Pretty work Capt. Trey!!!!!!!!!
Mahi still around
Still large gaffers in the area.
Marlin beside the boat
Great picture of one of two Blues we released today!
Family Fun
Fishing this week was good while it lasted. As most of you know we just had a hurrican come through. So our fishing week got cut short do to weather. We made it through the storm just fine and are ready to go fishing. I was able to run two inshore trips on 8/31/10 before I had to start getting ready for the storm. Both trips were what fishing is all about. Taking families and there little ones fishing. On both trips we had children of all ages, and were blessed with lots of blues, and Spanish. On our p.m. trip we had two young girls that out fished the boys.
Bills in the area
Offshore this past week was very good. The white marlin bite has been off the hook. Capt. Jamie on the PHIDEAUX caught eight whites lasts Thursday. The boat Hog Wild caught and released 29 billfish over for days of fishing. The dolphin fishing has been good if you find one you find one hundred. Looking forward to fishing this week. With this storm on her way, the fishing will be the stuff that dreams are made of. Congratulations to our dock partner
Mahi and Bill Fish
Chuck and company hit the mahi on the way out then spent the rest of the day trying to raise a bill fish. Three in the spreed and one white on the hook.
Tower Power
Fishing this week was very good. The wind moved to the east, the water cleared up, and the inshore bite was on. Lots of blues, Spanish, and fat Alberts off the beach. The offshore bite has been good with dolphin, sails, and white marlin,
A day for Pete and the Tuna
Capt. Trey got to take his adopted grandfather out fishing today. Pete Overman and friends had a great time and caught some nice tune.
Mahi in close
Trey had a tower trip today and after catching the Amber Jack's he trolled around and hit some mahi on the way in.
Jeff’s Spanish
Nice size Spanish hanging out around the inlet today. Jeff normally likes bigger fish, but sometimes we have to take what the ocean offers.
Fishing with Mid-Atlantic Assoicates
The winds kept us close to shore today, we thought. We had a good catch of Spainish and Blues right off the start and then discussions led to ... lets go off-shore. We headed to the tower and had zero luck on the AJ's, then headed out deeper for the blue water. NOAA got the forecast correct today, 6 on 6! Capt. Trey landed one really nice Yellowfin Tuna, sea sickness broke out for a few and we decided to head in. Great, but rough day to be on the water. I'll bet we will have the most talked about inshore trip on the OBX this week.
Tuna in August
The Offshore fishing portion of our day was rough, but we managed to get one very nice Yellowfin (59lbs ... in August!)
Summer days
Inshore fishing this week was good. Only had three inshore charters but all three had smiles on their faces along with some Blue Fish and Spanish. Some of the inshore boats earlier this week found the big Drum. Due to cold water and not being lucky enough to run over them I did not find any. But it is very encouraging to hear of some being caught. Capt. Trey.
Smiles are what it’s all about
Jeremiah and his catch. Do yourself a favor....TAKE A KID FISHING!
Tyler in Panama
A good friend of Waste Knot Charters (Tyler Sudbrink) was in Panama this week and caught his first Black Marlin....Way to go Tyler!
Blackfin and Wahoo
Good fishing the boys had lots of rod time catching black fin tuna, 5 wahoo, and one citation wahoo weighing 50lb 64" long and 18" girth caught by Dwight Klenke.
Wahoo !!!!
Wow, what a WAHOO!!
Another birthday spent fishing
